DPM Tharman Shanmugaratnam presented Budget 2014 this afternoon. It acknowledges our debt to the Pioneer Generation, and helps to prepare our economy and society for the future.

The Budget gives specifics of the Pioneer Generation Package that I announced two weeks ago. These men and women made great sacrifices to build today’s Singapore. Now, it’s our turn to take care of them.

There are enhanced schemes to help companies (especially SMEs) upgrade, adopt IT, and raise productivity.

Employer CPF contributions will go up, to help build up our Medisave savings.

Healthcare will become more affordable. Lower- and middle-income patients will enjoy higher subsidies for outpatient care at polyclinics and specialist outpatient clinics.

We will give more support to disabled children and their families, through early intervention programmes.

A GST voucher – Cash for Seniors, U-Save top-ups and S&CC rebates, will help households with the cost of living.

I hope we can work together and embrace the “can-do”, resilient and united spirit of our Pioneer Generation to achieve the best for Singapore.

Budget 2014 contains much more. Visit www.Singaporebudget.gov.sg for more details of the schemes and incentives, and how you can benefit from them. – LHL
